Children
Govans welcomes children of all ages and encourages participation as developmentally appropriate. Diana Sugiuchi coordinates the Children and Youth Ministry Area and seeks to make every child’s time at church a positive and learning experience. The Sunday School classes meet weekly from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., between the two worship services. (See below for age groups and locations!) Children and youth participate in mission projects such as collecting food for CARES, our local food pantry. In the fall, the Sunday School participates in the CROP walk for hunger relief around the world. During the season of Lent, children make daily contributions to a coin bank to contribute to One Great Hour of Sharing. Sunday School at Govans begins with Rally Day in September and Ends with the All Church Picnic in June. During the summer months, Vacation Bible School is held during the week.
Youth
Govans’ youth meet for Sunday School weekly in two classes, one for middle school youth and the other for senior high school youth. The youth also hold weekly meetings for fun, fellowship, and service on Sunday afternoons from 3-5 p.m. Melissa Lees coordinates youth activities at the church, including family retreats, lock-ins, and fundraisers for summer mission trips. During the summer, youth participate in a spiritual retreat at Montreat Conference Center in North Carolina, or a mission experience to Hou Kola Learning Camps in South Dakota.

Youth Sunday
Youth and children lead the Mother’s Day worship services at Govans. In addition to taking charge of the worship experience on that day, youth and children serve and participate in worship in a variety of aspects throughout the year. Youth read scripture, operate the 9:15 powerpoint projection screen, and sing/play with the 9:15 praise band. Children participate in the children’s messages during each worship service, sing in the children’s choir, and play handbells.

The class will take place on Sundays following the 11 a.m. worship service. Youth who are interested in joining the class should contact Pastor Tom or Melissa Lees for details. Check here in January for more news about this class!
