Services

Senior Network’s range of services, fall into two categories: activities, and Information and Assistance (I&A).

Activities include weekly classes covering multiple subjects such as Computer Technology, French, Spanish, Tai Chi, Line Dancing, Bible Study and Aerobic Exercise, among others.  We offer clubs (Book Club, Reminiscing Group, and Bridge Club) encouraging seniors with common interests to meet old friends and to make new ones.  SNNB travel opportunities for seniors include day trips to nearby locations including the Roots Amish Market in Pennsylvania, an Historic Churches and Cathedrals Tour in Washington D.C., Prime Outlets in Queenstown, and special holiday season performances of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.  Occasional overnight trips go to destinations up and down the east coast.  Last year 669 seniors engaged in these activities to socialize and stay active.  Ticket sales for travel events helped fund those and other areas of our operation for lower-income clients.

Information & Assistance (I&A) is the other side of our operation.  Its purpose is to help seniors benefit from the complicated maze of assistance programs for which they qualify based on age or income.   Our I&A Specialist sees clients on a walk-in and appointment basis to guide them Homeowners’ and Renters’ Tax Credits, the Maryland Energy Assistance Program (MEAP), Medicare and Medicaid programs, nutrition assistance, and many other social programs.  Prior to joining SNNB’s staff, our specialist worked for the Baltimore City Commission on Aging and Retirement Education as a Case Manager for six years, and still maintains relationships with and attends meetings of local senior groups, like the Govans Manor Golden Age Club.  I&A is an ongoing area of focus for Senior Network, and we frequently call upon local experts and authorities to present information and hold workshops for our clients.  For example, University of Maryland pharmacist Dr. Nicole Brandt met with individual clients and conducted weekly workshops at Senior Network during the Medicare Part D open enrollment period.  Many clients who previously were facing dire choices between paying for food and medicine are now enrolled in more appropriate plans that meet their monthly prescription.  Good Samaritan Hospital conducts monthly blood pressure screenings at our site, and sponsors a monthly luncheon where our clients enjoy a nutritious, low-cost meal while learning about health issues in high-quality presentations geared toward a senior audience.
