Our primary Adult Education program is every Sunday morning (Sept-May) between the services at 10am. Topics vary from Bible Study, to learning about local mission, to current events. Sometimes we have guest speakers and sometimes our own members provide leadership.
Between the services at 10am we have Cross-Generational Sunday School. This is a class for all ages. Parents are encouraged but not required to participate. Older children help out and provide leadership for younger children as we learn lessons based on the sermon passage for the day. The curriculum is intimately connected to the Bible passages we read during worship each Sunday. In class, students are given the opportunity to learn more about the values and virtues communicated through these ancient stories.
Our 9am Service is designed so families can worship together for the entire service. We created the service with children in mind. There is an engaging children’s sermon every Sunday led by staff or church members. We bring the offering forward so kids have an opportunity to get up and move around, We have a “Prayground” so families with very young children have a more contained space in the Sanctuary for children to play during worship. There are activity bags for children to explore and discover. Communion is also a very special time for kids as they gather around the Communion Table and get to help break the bread and pour the juice. The service is designed to be 45 minutes. Children are welcome at our 10:45 service as well. The Prayground and Activity Bags are also available in this service.
Youth and Young Families
Youth Group takes place on Friday nights at 6:30pm. Our Associate Pastor Rev. Billy Kluttz leads with music, games and engaging lessons. Youth between grades 3-12 are welcome. After gathering in a big group we split up into similar aged groups for age appropriate activities. Email email@example.com for this month’s meeting schedule.
Youth Servant Leader Program
(September to June)
For 8th graders and above we have a special program designed to nurture leadership for our youth. A one-year commitment to the program includes monthly leadership in worship, service to the church, and service to the community. There is also a monthly Youth Servant Leader Council meeting to process how these commitments are going and dream about ways to make the church better. One year in the Youth Servant Leader Program qualifies a youth to join the church as an active adult member.
Young Families Group
Each month, families with kids ages 1-18 are invited to a special event led by Pastor Billy. Hiking, games, movies, meals, and other activities are all possible offerings. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to learn about this month’s outing.
Every Tuesday at 10am Pastor Tom leads a Bible Study. We read through a book of the Bible and discuss, alternating between Old and New Testament books. The Bible Study is held at Broadmead Retirement Community, but anyone can participate through Zoom.
Govans’ Conversation Corps connects the congregation and community through monthly one-on-one conversations and quarterly reflection and sharing sessions led by Pastor Billy. To learn more and sign-up to be a conversation convener, email email@example.com.
Govans Racial Justice Ministry offers a variety of opportunities to learn more about racism, systems of white supremacy, internalized racism, and how they intersect with each other.
