On Sunday, September 11, we are kicking off the fall season at Govans… and we want you to be part of the fun!
Blessing of the Backpacks
During both worship services (at 9:00 am and 11:00 am in the sanctuary and online), we will offer a blessing of the backpacks for students of all ages. What’s a blessing of the backpacks? Kids and parents will be able to make and laminate their own backpack tags during the worship services. Then, as part of worship, Pastors Tom and Billy will pray for each student offering a blessing over their school year ahead. Students of all ages are invited to mark this new beginning with prayer and intention.
Christian Education Open House
Between services (at 10:00 am), we’ll have a Christian education open house where adults and kids can learn more about Sunday school options this fall, as well as other ways they can be involved in the life of Govans this fall:
- Pastor Billy will preview our fall Sunday school series in the Youth Room.
- Ben Hobbs will share about Adult Options (what we call Sunday school for adults) in the Waverly Room
- Other ministry areas at Govans, such as our Racial Justice Ministry, musical ministries (band, choir, and handbells), and Biblical storytelling group, will have tables in the Gallery with information about their upcoming events and ways to be involved.
And did we mention ice cream?
Between services we’ll also have an ice cream social outside on the Peace Terrace.
