Holy Week and Easter

Holy Week and Easter

Palm Sunday | March 24

9:00 am Stations of the Cross

Laila Ali will lead us through the Stations of the Cross. This will be in-person only.

10:30 am Worship Service

Palm Sunday is known for its processional that starts in the courtyard, as we wave our palms high and shout, “Hosanna!” Hosanna is an interesting word often used as a word of praise, but unlike Hallelujah or Amen, it is a calling out to God for help. The full use in scripture is Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the Highest! Join us as we “call forth” God into our midst and remember Jesus’ entry to Jerusalem through story, scripture, and song.

Maundy Thursday Supper | March 28

5:30 pm

Join us at 5:30 p.m. for a heartwarming community meal featuring delicious soup and bread, lovingly prepared by Soul Kitchen, alongside a variety of salads and desserts generously provided by the Mariners and the congregation.

Additionally, we have special Holy Week activities planned for the littlest worshippers, including a movie in the Youth Room!

We look forward to seeing you there!

Holy Week Service | March 28

7:00 pm Worship Service

Join us in the Sanctuary for a Holy Week service in observance of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. The week between Palm Sunday and Easter is special in the church year. This service will be one of prayer, scripture, and song. We will hear the entirety of the passion narrative from Jesus at the table, his prayers in the garden, his betrayal, arrest, trial, and execution. We invite you into this important narrative to reflect on Jesus’ life and our own. So when we declare on Easter morning that “He is Risen!” we do so having experienced the weeping before the joy, making our declaration much richer.

Easter | March 31

10:30 am Worship Service

Join us for Easter Sunday, March 31st! Experience the joy of the resurrection as we come together to sing Easter hymns, reflect on scripture, and offer prayers of gratitude. This year, our celebration will be enriched by the uplifting melodies of early music performed on baroque violins, viola, cello, and the triumphant Easter trumpet, alongside our talented band, choir, and hand bell choir.

Easter Egg Hunt and Petting Zoo following the service

After the service, join in the excitement as the Easter Bunny pays a visit, and delight in an Easter egg hunt and family-friendly activities on the church lawn. Plus, enjoy interactions with animals provided by Woodberry Crossing for a day of fun suitable for all ages.

All worship services will be in-person and broadcast on Facebook and Zoom. Please email us at wilson@govanspres.org for a Zoom link.
