Govans Community Farm Receives $160,000 State Grant

Govans Presbyterian Church is pleased to announce the award of a $160,000 grant from the State of Maryland through the Fiscal Year 2026 Baltimore Regional Neighborhood Initiative (BRNI). This funding will support the expansion of the Govans Community Farm located at 5828 York Road in Baltimore.

The Govans Community Farm is an idea born from our work promoting Racial Justice. Recognizing the continued impact and legacy of past injustices, we see an opportunity to address this legacy through the cooperative operation of a community farm. The farm will sync with other community efforts, plans and expressed needs.  We do this through collaboration with other partners along the York Road corridor to address food insecurity issues in the greater Govans area.  Our partners include the Cares Food Pantry, GEDCO, Loyola University, Nature Sacred, and the York Road Business Improvement District and the York Road Partnership.

The funding will support new construction of a multi-purpose pavilion that will be a center for farm activities on the farm that address local food and related community needs. “Our initiative with the Farm compliments other work to revitalize the York Road corridor. When we invest together in the character, vitality, and potential of our communities, we unlock new opportunity for the people who live and work there. We know that when we invest in great places, Great Places Win,” said Peter Conrad of the Govans Earth Care group. “This funding will strengthen the Govans Community Farm project and support thriving, livable communities. We’re excited to continue working with our partners in North Baltimore as we expand our efforts to address food insecurity.” We thank our supporters, collaborators and DHCD for their generous support of the Farm.
